Since participating in the International Leadership Exchange (ILE), I have done quite a bit of traveling. The ILE changed my perspective of the world and how I view it through the lens of travel. Traveling to Tanzania and Zanzibar, Africa was the experience I needed to grasp the fact that the world is so much bigger than we think. I partook in the ILE in May 2014 and since then I have traveled to 6 new countries, 2 new island, and more than 6 new U.S states. My hallmark trip was in 2016 when I went on a backpacking trip in Europe. Alongside one other travel buddy, we were able to visit 4 renowned cities in 4 countries over the span of 12 days. The cities included Berlin, Amsterdam, Paris and Barcelona! The purpose of this trip was for leisure and educational purposes being that we went to most landmarks, cathedrals and mingled with as many locals as possible. In addition to these activities, we wanted to learn more about the rich history, culture and how locals navigated their way of life in a different part of the world, similar to the ILE trip to Africa. In conclusion, my experience in the ILE allowed me to appreciate my life and the fortunes I have to a much greater extent. For this reason, I choose to live my life by enjoying the world through exploration and travel. My goal since the ILE experience has been to plan at least two big trips every year. This year, I plan on going to San Francisco, Napa Valley, San Diego, Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon as part of one trip. My past destinations and my future travel plans are never “just a place to visit”, but rather a new way of viewing things.
