While completing my Master of Education with a concentration in College Student Affairs at Rutgers University – New Brunswick, I worked as a graduate coordinator in the Office of Student Life and Leadership (OSLL) at Rutgers University – Newark (2012-2014). This experience shaped the foundation for my journey as a professional in student affairs and higher education. During these two years, I developed an array of skills that since then I continue to use in my profession. I explored effective interpersonal communication with students while learning the ins and outs of program planning. I developed community building and leadership initiatives and soon learned how to wear multiple hats as an administrator in higher education. As a graduate student working in OSLL, I always felt like I had the autonomy to be creative and provide input in the projects that we created for students. Thus, being a graduate coordinator at Rutgers University – Newark is an experience that I will always value. It certainly prepared me for the next steps that I took professionally. Currently, I work for the Douglass Residential College at Rutgers University as a program director for the Douglass Project for Rutgers Women in Science Technology & Engineering. I bring to the team and to my students my expertise in student affairs, much of which I learned during my working experience as a graduate coordinator.
