My experience working in the campus center as a graduate student has shaped my career tremendously. I had an opportunity to learn about professional development, training, management, being a customer service agent, as well as service learning. The graduate student position molded me into a seasoned professional. I was challenged with duties and responsibilities, however with guidance and support from administrative staff I was able to successfully complete my tenure.
One of my most memorable experiences in the position was having the opportunity to go to Tanzania, Africa to assist with coordinating the service learning trip with Dean Clayton Walton. The trip changed my outlook on how I view life, not taking any opportunities for granted. That trip sparked a fuse that gave me the gumption to advance in my professional development. Currently, I am the Manager of Events and Programs for the Office of the Chancellor at Rutgers University Newark. A role in which I didn’t believe I would serve on the university level. If the graduate position was not awarded to me, I would not be the professional I am today. I want to personally thank my mentor and fraternity brother, Dean Clayton Walton for believing in me, a young Newark native, with passion for education.
